Why do people claim there was uproar over the Arizona immigration bill?
The only people complaining about it were illegals or the family of illegals. Oh and some politicians who want votes, or groups that make money out of illegals. I dont see any normal non political, no vested interest people even giving it a second thought

- LaRaza is wetting their pants.
- i am in wasington on business right now---you could hear the cheers all through town.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah----------WOOOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Exactly! I see no one of importance in uproar over this bill.
- 80% of Arizona residents supported it. I wonder who the other 20% were...
- i am a WHITE MAN and i find this law unconstitutional.............................look i know i will get thumbs down but I don't care this law can not be permitted to pass for it will severely limit the police force to persecute illegal "criminals" instead of getting the real criminals
- Yes. Notice that most of us with jobs and who don't mooch off the government and who aren't "day laborers" who pick our work schedule could NOT attend the protest? What a bunch of lazy sleepy scoundrels
- If they're non-political that means they haven't read the law, just base what it is off of Fox News. The people protesting it are against it because it's unethical. It's unethical for a police officer to pick out Hispanics just because they have reasonable suspicion they're illegal immigrants which means that they're brown. They're obviously not going to pick out a white Canadian because they look "American". They say immigrants take away the jobs from unemployed Americans but I don't see any white people on the corner of Home Depot, desperate for a few bucks. If an illegal immigrant gets a job, his earnings will go towards: room and board and to his desperately poor family who still lives in his country. If a joblesss white person gets the same job, he will get payed much more (and complain about how little money it is) and his money will go torward french fries and coke. So who really needs the job more? Which way is the money best spent?
- Nope. You're wrong. The people complaining are every single hispanic in the entire country, including natural-born citizens like me. Thank God I do not live in Arizona. But seriously, who wants to live in some smelly desert anyhow? Trust me, the economic status in your State is only to become worse with this bill.
- I am a Puerto Rican who recently moved to Arizona for college. I am carrying a perfect 4.0 as a full time student while working two part time jobs. A lot of my professors, coming from many nationalities and all holding doctorates, are distressed over this bill. There are unconstitutional issues with this bill, namely being the incrimination of anyone in contact with illegal aliens. I can be arrested for giving a classmate a ride, regardless of my knowledge of their legal status. Second, all that is required to ascertain the legality of a suspect is provisioned in the existing rules of police engagement. Reasonable Cause is required to stop an individual. Reasonable Suspicion is required for a police officer to detain an individual. However, reasonable suspicion may not apply merely because a person refuses to answer questions, declines to allow a voluntary search, or is of a suspected race or ethnicity. So, for example, if a police officer observes an individual with a broken taillight, he has reasonable cause to pull them over. If the suspect does not speak English, that is not reasonable suspicion of illegal citizen status. It is not against the law to not speak English. If the suspect has a drivers license and registration, then the only crime is the traffic violation. If the driver cannot provide a driver's license, then there is a Reasonable Cause for temporary detainment. If the driver is found to be on a restricted license, there is Reasonable Cause for Detainment, in which the suspect can be taken to a state or federal facility. This bill makes it possible to detain an individual for DWB (Driving while Brown), or any other reason. From the bill: 5. Allows a law enforcement officer, without a warrant, to arrest a person if the officer has probable cause to believe that the person has committed any public offense that makes the person removable from the U.S. What defines probable cause in this case? As all Puerto Ricans are legal citizens of the US, I could carry my birth certificate with me at all times. However, I was born on sovereign US Air Force territory in Spain, therefore my Birth Certificate is entirely written in Spanish. Would this give a Law Enforcement Officer probable cause to arrest me? I am just as likely to have 'committed any public offense that makes the person removable from the U.S.', were I or he an illegal alien. Even Governer Jan Brewer, when asked "what does an illegal immigrant look like?" responded "I do not know" The heart of this issue it that this gives Law Enforcement the ability to use racial profiling, as there is really no other way to determine an illegal immigrant. They most likely would not demand legality status from a Canadian immigrant, as they are usually white. There are illegals who are from, for example, Ukraine. I very much doubt they would have the same chances of being run through Immigration databases as I would.
- If you are from Arizona you would know that the sheriff is already doing warrantless searches and he is under investigation by the federal government about this issue. He has been doing this illegally although he claims he has warrants he simply raids places known to have high concentrations of hispanic workers thats racial profiling at best. Read about it here if you want. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/01/07/20100107joe-arpaio-grand-jury.html This new law simply gives permission to any official to question anyone based on their appearance (skin color, clothes, accent, even your car if its old and barely running) Many people seem this is fine but it isnt fun to know that at any time I can be questioned if I answer something incorrectly I can be sent to jail for further investigation even though Im a citizen. Again I am from Arizona and this is affecting me greatly I believe. Here is an example from the news where a man was taken in and this law supposably does not take effect until summer. http://www.azfamily.com/video/featured-videos/Man-says-he-was-racially-targeted-forced-to-provide-birth-certificate-91769419.html So yes it gives police the authority to bully. Like the good ole days huh?
