Why is there such an uproar about the latest Arizona ILLEGAL immigration law?

If a person READS the law they will clearly see that it doesn't grant law enforcement officers any more authority than they already have. It was simply passed to get the attention of those elected officials in Washington DC. I believe the "protesters are misinformed and being duped for political reasons.

Public Comments

  1. Ignorance on their part. I've challenged them several times to cite a sentence or paragraph of the bill that is unconstitutional and they CAN'T
  2. I think its becasue we can clearly see that the Feds do not want to enforce illegal immigration laws. We have seen the democrat party pushing for Amnesty, and hack republican party members like McCain and others warming up to the idea. These are the party sell outs so no one listens to them anyways. In the end, American Citizens do not want Amnesty. They said it a few years ago and they haven't changed thier minds. Many political morons and columnists have tried to change public opinion and they can't. America is not budging. But the longer illegals stay here in America, the more they feel safe, the more they feel entitles the the longer the issue drags on. This law puts a definate wedge in between citizens and illegals and isn't allowing politicians to 'blurr the lines' anymore. It is stating it up front that if your ILLEGAL, you don't belong here and if you get caught, you will pay the price. Which is what all of America should agree with, but there's that small percentage of disconented moron leftists that will whine about everything they can in an attempt to weaken America and bring it down
  3. First, it gives immigration enforcement authority, reserved for federal agents, to local cops. This gives them more authority. Second, the law says this: (sorry for the caps, it's directly from the document): E. A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, WITHOUT A WARRANT, MAY ARREST A PERSON IF THE OFFICER HAS PROBABLE CAUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THE PERSON HAS COMMITTED ANY PUBLIC OFFENSE THAT MAKES THE PERSON REMOVABLE FROM THE UNITED STATES. A public offense includes being here illegally. This gives them a LOT more authority to stop, detain and jail someone (including US citizens), since all they have to do is "believe" they might be illegal.
  4. Are you serious? You've actually read it and you deduct that it grants no new authority to local police? Police now have no authority to check for immigration status of an individual that they detain. Under the new law they will have that authority. Your basic patrol cop will have the authority to enforce what is now federal law. You think a state can get the attention of elected officials by enacting meaningless, do-nothing laws? I believe someone else is being misinformed and duped for political reasons, someone who uses open-ended quotes.
  5. Agreed. The party that encourages people to speak out the loudest will get the most votes. I have not heard any naturalized citizens speaking out against this law. And why were these marches organized on the Communist May Day celebration?
  6. I am Hispanic born and live in Az. and I SUPPORT THIS LAW. My family came over legal and I think everyone should come legally. The people who are illegal aliens, are criminals, but they seem to think they have the right to tell us Americans what to do. Can't wait for the 90 days so they move out...
  7. Could you provide a link to the law please? And I do believe that providing a NEW crime in state statutes that includes a possible punishment of jail time does provide new power, wouldn't you? Granting state-licensed peace officers the power to arrest a person solely based on immigration reasons alone is a change. Before they were only allowed to detain them. Did you miss that detail? Be very careful when you call others misinformed. In some cases, you are absolutely right, and some people are misinformed. However I can assure you I am not one of them, and I believe you are considerably misinformed.
  8. The problem has to do with those who wrote it: please watch this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilKUxWbGQj4
  9. It gives the police more enforcement power to go after illegal aliens that are drug runners, human traffickers and terrorists who still find ways into the country to threaten Americans.Who wouldn't want that? I was a bit taken back that Latino American groups do not see how it how important this is as a national security issue that protects the state and nation's resident population as a whole; only as a racial one that they feel inconveniences one particular ethnic group. (As if illegal Europeans, Middle Eastern and Asians would somehow escape the wrath of sb1070.) I didn't think they were so one-sided and not see us as a nation of Americans first. I no longer see the value of supporting a comprehensive immigration program that does will not value America's post 9/11 security issues as much as I do.
  10. I'm Latino, Democrat, Gay, and I support this Arizona law! The fact is, illegal aliens have “more” rights than gay people. Illegal aliens can see their opposite sex partners in hospitals, and up until just 2 weeks ago when Obama signed an executive order allowing same-sex couples to see one another in hospitals, same sex couples would have been continually barred from seeing one another. Illegal aliens can marry an American citizen, gay people cannot marry in most states in the US. Illegal aliens can march on Washington and request some type of amnesty from a president who supports selective amnesty, gay people can march on Washington, but Obama doesn't support same sex marriage. Illegal aliens broke the law entering our country and are using their "anchor babies" (born here in the US) to anchor onto benefits that taxpayers pay for which include: public housing, free rent, food stamps, Medicaid, unemployment, and Earned Income Tax Credit. Additionally, there's nothing to stop them from having more kids in order to convince a judge to let them stay in the US. On the other hand, many states don't allow gay Americans to adopt children. Illegal aliens should all be deported now. We need to end birthright citizenship, and deny illegals social services. Americans are ultimately left to pick up the bill for the billions in services they receive for free all the while paying nothing into the system and send all their earned money back to Mexico to help our their country, not ours. Citizens paying taxes into the system, regardless of sexual orientation, should come FIRST before illegal aliens who are leaving struggling Americans footing the bill. Illegal aliens are also blatantly disregarding our citizenship laws and are abusing the public assistance system to their advantage. This needs to stop NOW!
