Why the uproar over Haiti's mass graves from the earthquake,it was for sanitation for the living?
A bad deal but necessary to keep others from dying.

- Because most of them are catholics and catholics have a specific way of doing things.
- I'm glad they did it. It is a safe sanitary method. Without it, many more would die.
- I agree, however, I can see people getting upset over the fact that loved ones' corpses are simply being dumped into a mass grave with no identification, recognition.
- Because the media portray's other peoples way of life barbaric. When it is just the way it is.
- That is true...but still terrible for the people. Unfortunately when there is a disaster of this scale there is no choice but to bury people in mass graves. When one man dies it is a tragedy. When a thousand people die it becomes an issue of public health. But can you imagine what it would be like...to have lost your whole family...your children, your wife, your mother and father...and to not even be able to pinpoint where their bodies are? I am not religious in a christian sense, but my brother disappeared when I was 12. And often I think,,if I just new where his body lay, I could visit the site and try to take some comfort from that. It is unreasonable and irrational I know...but then so is grief.
- Seriously, would you want your child dumped in a mass grave. The thought horrifies me.
- difficult times warrant difficult decisions . it was and still would be in a similar situation regrettably what has to be done as most have said a matter of sanitary and health reasons the living must live on otherwise more would die. there is always someone somebody or religion who will complain . you have to weigh up the situation not ideal then a earthquake of that devastating proportion and its outcome have to be sorted . mass graves are not ideal but then what was the other alternative there wasn't one
- I am unaware that there is an uproar. I don't see what else they could have done.
- They had no choice! Do you know how quickly a body decomposes? Do you know you can die from exposure to dead bodies? How can there possibly be an uproar???
- The people were put in mass graves without a reasonable effort made to identify them or give them proper burials according to the customs of the local people. Consider the uproar if this had been done in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Those people were kept in freezers for months while experts were brought in to help identify each individual and every effort was made to notify next of kin. The uproar in Haiti is that the people are being treated like they are less than human.
- it evokes images of the Jews in the Holocaust, horrible thoughts. This too is horrible but must be dealt with; do you let those who survive die of disease by letting the dead lay around? live in the stench? The Spirit is gone from the body, as long as those who use the back loaders and trucks and Caterpillar do so with reverence, they are saving lives of those who survived and should be commended. It would be a horrible job to do, day after day, these people will never be the same and should be held in respectful thoughts. I am glad someone has done it.
