why is there no uproar when jews or christians are?

insulted and blasphemed , but when it is islamic there riots and threats and fatwas to kill the infidels? why do moderate muslims not speak up and denounce radicals.

1. The same reason there is no uproar when white males are insulted or blasphemed. Because they are the majority and have the most power already. Also the same reason it is okay to sexually harass your boss, but not your coworkers or employees.

9. they do denounce them.... ali sistani ( a scholar who is followed by millions) is one of many who have done this. He is one of the most powerful men in iraq, he was offered to rule iraq but refused it because he knew of the corruption of politics.

13. The Christians believe that Jesus can look after himself, we mortals don't have to fighting for him. Basically it is vain to think one is so big as to want to protect God, surely he/she can look after himself/herself.

17. Because Jews and christians have a "good god" that tells them to be nice and patient and forgive. Moderate muslims don't agree with radicals and I have heard stories of them denouncing radicals. I think the answer to "why do moderate muslims not speak up and denounce radicals" would be: they do but it is not seen nor heard. Some people live and let die and some speak up, but speaking up will get you killed in lots of places so it is done privately in small social structures.

There are voices that denounce these things but I think the success doesn't lie with the Jewish or Xtian faiths as much as success of Western Democracy to allow the cultivation of religious values in a multicultural, secular society. Islamic countries are plagued by various autocrats. Xtianity wasn't more civilized under similar circumstances.

24. Moderate Muslims do not speak up in Muslim countries on fear of retribution. As to the amount of uproar, I agree that Islam over-reacts to words and pictures. But if there was no comment at all from Jews or Christians when they are publicly insulted, that would be a mistake. There is the Jewish Anti-Defamation League, and I'm sure there are corresponding organizations supporting Christianity. My own take on all this as an atheist is that we should have free and open discussions without name-calling and sarcasm. It is amazing how well people can get along even though they disagree if they have good manners.
25. I would bet that the moderate Muslims are, largely, scared to speak against the Jihadists. A Christian speaking against say, Pat Robertson doesn't have quite as much to fear. As an atheist, I will say the Muslim extremists make ours look like saints. Not that Christianity hasn't had it's 'dark ages', also, though. lol. Discrimination is wrong against either the majority or minority. (Majority in numbers doesn't always mean the majority can face no bull. For example, ever heard of a tyrannical monarchy?) Though not being allowed to forcefeed us your religion is NOT discrimination, despite what many fundies think.
26. I thought that there were uproars when jews are insulted.. its called antisemitism.. and you can get fired, blacklisted, etc for doing this.. Look at Mel Gibsons stint when he was pulled over... his little quip about jews cost him a lot in hollywood.. but if he mentioned the same quip about muslims. the policeman probably would have laughed and Mel would have been patted on the back and sent his merry way...
27. because they have a loose screw, christians respect other peoples rights as people. that is ordained from god. but the wackos may have the right idea in a way, it doesn't really matter how good you are on earth. the only prerequisite to get into heaven is faith. being a goody goody is a function of our society and they don't cater to society.
