Why is it that there is more outrage towards single parents that that unplanned children out of wedlock?

Why is it that single mothers that have unplanned/unwanted children out of wedlock are looked down on when they have to go on gov. assistance but on the flipside single fathers that have unplanned/unwanted children out of wedlock aren't looked down for not being there to support the child and keeping them off of gov. assistance?

  1. They are both looked down on the only difference is the father is not around to get the disapproving looks and whispers.
  2. I think your question is rhetorical, meaning you already know the answer. To me, the short answer is that it's nothing more than utter sexism. Men do not carry the burden of fathering an untold amount of children without being married and then not taking care of them, financially or otherwise. Unfortunately, in the eyes of most society, men and women are not equal in terms of the results of sexuality outside of marriage. I have to say that I think there are a lot of girls/women who do not have any respect for boys/men who go around spreading their seed and leaving the consequences to girls/women who are ill-equipped to handle the situation alone. And, there are plenty of boys/men who think these types of men need serious help and guidance because they believe it's wrong to do.
  3. First off, 20% of children on welfare are a part of intact families. According to Judge David Grey Ross, Commissioner of the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement, 85% of child support is paid in full. Children on Welfare would still be on Welfare if their parents were together. Their fathers don't have sufficient education and job training to earn enough to support their children enough to stay off welfare. Apparently middle income women are better at the use of birth control than low income women. That is why they are looked down on, though of late, more middle income single and divorced mothers are seeking welfare help due to the economy and the fathers being laid off.
