Does anyone else find the uproar over the SNL skit about NY Governor Paterson ridiculous?
People are getting upset about how they portrayed his blindness, and ineptness. It is a caricature! This is a comedy show! It requires a sense of humor, something sorely lacking in many Americans. What do you think?

- We have forgot how to laugh. We are an uptight country.
- This is what it is like to live in a liberal country. Anything and everything someone does will offend someone else and there always seems to be a group out there ready to be outraged by it.
- I think people need to get over it. My father is legally blind. I still thought it was hilarious. I mean really, it was okay when they did a skit about Sarah Palin's husband abusing their children but this was horrible? People need to relax. It's all in fun.
- I thought it was awful, mostly because it was so far from true. Good satire must be founded in some element of truth. That's why the Sarah Palin parodies were so funny - they were so close to the truth. But the Paterson "parody" was so far from the truth. Paterson, and I may not agree with him about everything, but he's pretty together in how he handles his disability. Do you know that he can't read almost at all? He did learn to read the regular way when he still had some sight (as a child) but he progressively lost that range of vision, and by then, he was older, so he never learned to read braille. As a result, everything is read to him. AND he can't use a teleprompter. In this day and age, can you imagine a politician who can't use a teleprompter??? Still, he gives fantastic speeches completely from memory, complete with facts and figures that are all correct (hey, that's far better than Bush WITH a teleprompter, doncha think????) And, he's incredibly well "read" though tape recorded materials and having aides read to him. He manages to be far more coherent and poised than most politicians, despite these limitations. Saturday Night Live should have picked something else to parody. Like the fact that he turns everything into a joke, even during serious speeches. THAT might have been funny, because it's true! But not the bumbling thing. It's just NOT true.
- I think it's ridiculous! I've been watching that show for OMG, 33 years? How the hell did I get so old? Anyhow, they've been making fun of any and all politicians throughout that time. People who go into public light, like Governors, or former Lieutenant Governors have to learn how to take it. I'm sure that Governor Patterson is overjoyed that they trated him as a "sport" instead of lashing out at him. It actually was a pretty funny sketch, verdad?
